Product Description
Mary Peters despairs that she will never marry. At nineteen, she has no prospects of finding a husband, so she takes matters into her own hands and becomes a mail-order bride. When she arrives to Omaha, Nebraska to meet the man she's due to marry, he takes one look at her homely appearance and rejects her.

But fate has other plans for Mary. Dave Larson happens to be nearby and thinks she will make a good wife. Though she is stunned that someone as handsome and as kind as Dave would ask her to marry him, she accepts. She knows that this marriage will not bear the fruits of love. Love, after all, is for beautiful women. Isn't it?

4 out of 5 stars What a wonderfully sweet story   July 30, 2010
Frankie Sutton (North Carolina)
This book was a delightfully sweet story that actually teaches us that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
Sometimes we overlook the inner beauty of a person for the more outward beauty.
While the book is simplistic in it's story, the message makes up for it.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it highly.

1 out of 5 stars Do not bother... dreadfully boring   July 29, 2010
This book was so boring and cliche I almost stopped reading it halfway through. The author repeated herself over and over... How many ways can you say shes pretty on the inside. If I could give it zero stars I would have.

1 out of 5 stars eye of the beholder   July 24, 2010
boring beyond measure. happy to see the appreciation of beauty within but found it sadly unfulfilling. cannot recommend this book

3 out of 5 stars Talented author but not a great story overall   July 6, 2010
Angela K. Risner (Ohio)
I love Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly. And I love Patricia MacLachlan's Sarah, Plain and Tall. So I am a sucker for people forced into marriage during the late 19th century/early 20th century, who eventually fall in love and realize that they were meant to be together all along.

This book tries very hard to be those other books. And there are definitely some moments that showcase this author's raw talent. But overall, the story is a bit silly.

It's hard to believe, for instance, that married or not, these two would just fall into bed right away. And, that everything would work like clockwork there. Heck, even when you know what sex is and want it, your first time as a woman is not all that great (in my experience as well as most other women I spoke to before embarking on sex for the first time - with someone I had known more than a few hours and was in love with).

There is a great message of course: That beauty depends on your personality and that your physical looks can be enhanced or denigrated by what is inside of you.

I was surprised at how much sex was in this book overall. And how detailed it was. Just a head's up in case you think that this book would be a good lesson for your 13 year old.

5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Story! Well Worth the Read ...   June 14, 2010
author (USA)
"Eye of the Beholder," by Ruth Ann Nordin, kept me glued and entertained to the very last page. People like Dave and Mary are rare, but when you meet couples like them in real life, they are a wonder and well-worth keeping as friends. The love scenes between husband and wife are gentle and sensitive and only add to the beauty and plot line of the book. To me it said, "What matters most in the love between a man and a woman, is the beauty within." Ms. Nordin is a great writer. I have to admit the characters came alive on the page and completely absorbed me so that I forgot I was reading a book.

I've downloaded "The Keeping of Greg Wilson". I liked the plot.

I hope to read "Brave Beginnings" when it is completed.
